Kitchen Cleaning Tips
The most important of kitchen cleaning tips is the same one that applies to all house cleaning endeavors - maintenance is so much easier than attacking things when they have gotten out of hand. A few minutes a day is all that is needed to save yourself hours and hours of work over time.
Clean Kitchen Tips
These kitchen cleaning tips are all about maintenance.
Maintain your floor.Clean as you go. If something spills, even just a few drops, wipe it up immediately. Otherwise you walk through it and it goes everywhere. If you have time, vacuuming the kitchen floor once a day will save on the number of times you need to wash it.
Countertops.Keep your work surfaces clean too by cleaning as you go. If things got out of hand and you have dried on spills, generously cover any spills with hot water, then wait for five minutes before wiping up - let the water do the work!
Stove maintenance.Every time you use it, wipe down your stove top after it has cooled off. If you don't follow this most basic of kitchen cleaning tips, any spills are going to cook on the next time you use it. This is one place where keeping it clean really pays off.
Monthly wipe.Once a month do a wipe down of the whole kitchen. This might take about an hour. Spray all surfaces with your favorite cleaner, wait a few minutes, then wipe with a microfiber cleaning cloth. Don't forget to wipe: all countertops (move all objects and get into the corners), top of cupboards and refrigerator, open shelves, cupboard doors, appliance exterior surfaces - anywhere dust and grease may have accumulated.
Refrigerator maintenance.Once a week go through all the shelves and drawers in your refrigerator and throw away anything that isn't fit to eat. Make your menu plan and grocery list right after you do this. That way you remember to use those foods that are about to expire.
Hood. Most stove hoods have a metal screen that you can easily remove to replace the filter. Be sure to replace the filter according to the manufacturer's directions to keep your hood functioning optimally. The metal screen should be washed regularly - maybe once a month. This will keep it from getting a heavy build up of grease which is hard to get off.
Grease.Speaking of grease, what if you haven't been practicing regular maintenance and have let things get out of hand? Old grease can be a really difficult to get rid of. One of the best grease cutters is washing soda and hot water, but you must be careful to protect yourself (gloves and even googles) if you need to go this route.
