Swiffer Sweeper
With Wet and Dry Mop Refills

The Swiffer Sweeper is a lightweight swivel headed dust mop that is best used for light housekeeping. Good for picking up dust, dander and pet hair, the Sweeper can do little more than gather crumbs and larger objects into a tidy pile, which you will have to vacuum or sweep up.

The Swiffer mop features a lightweight handle that requires a quick assembly. Although not technically disposable, the fact the handle is just a thin metal tube indicates that it is not built to last long. The lightweight feel makes it easy to push about, but clearly the sweeper will not tolerate much abuse. Expect to replace it often.

Cloths - The starter kit comes with both wet and dry cloths. The dry, electrostatic cloths quickly become saturated with dust and pet hair and you will probably need to use at least one for each room you have to clean. The wet cloths quickly become dry - you will need to use a fresh one each time, and perhaps several if you are cleaning a large area. Some customers complain that the wet sheets leave a coating of cleaning solution on the floor which attracts dust and quickly dulls what they thought was a clean floor.

Design - The Sweeper is quite easy and even enjoyable to use. The pivoting head and spongy edges and bottom make it easy to navigate furniture and get into corners. Because the head it is quite flat, you can get under the edges of appliances as well.

However, the fact the Swiffer is not designed to handle much downward pressure means that it is not effective for cleaning up large or dried on messes. Think light touch ups, a quick swish between more serious cleaning efforts.

Overall - If you have pets and hardwood or tile floors, a daily pass with the Swiffer mop (equipped with a fresh dry sheet) will definitely keep things tidier. For a bigger clean up, you will want to look elsewhere and equip yourself with something more powerful.
